The St Joseph County Public Library (SJCPL) and South Bend Museum of Art (SBMA) are proud to announce that five local artists have been selected as winners of the Charlotte Hunt Prize. The $30,000 being awarded was generously donated by the Hunt family in honor of their sister Charlotte. The prize pays tribute to the River Park Branch Library and the neighborhood surrounding it.

FIRST PRIZE — $10,000 Award

Stephen Barany (South Bend, IN)

SECOND PRIZE — $5,000 Award (each)

James Jursinic (Mishawaka, IN)

Alan J. Larkin (South Bend, IN)

Peg Carney Luecke (South Bend, IN)

Greg Potter (Franklin, IN)

Over 60 entries were submitted from across the United States. Each of the five award winning artists will begin working on their finished artworks, to be installed at the River Park Branch Library in a grand unveiling later this year. These finished artworks will be installed at the River Park Branch Library in remembrance of Charlotte Hunt and in celebration of the River Park neighborhood that she called home.

The prize is sponsored by Doug, Rick, and Dale Hunt in honor of their sister Charlotte, who lived with her family in River Park for many decades. Charlotte loved her neighborhood and especially enjoyed visiting the River Park Branch. According to Doug Hunt, “We trust in one way or another—whether a literal homage to the greater neighborhood or a medium and message expressive of the spirit of ‘the Park’—that the responding artist will capture the essence of this special neighborhood in the South Bend community.”
