Studio 304: Digital Media Lab

Studio 304 is a unique public space that offers tools and tech to create and produce print, video, and audio projects and a knowledgeable staff ready to help your ideas become reality.

We foster collaboration and creativity by providing guided access to the latest technology for creating, editing, and converting digital media projects. Whether you’re a novice or a professional, we’ll help you acquire and enhance new skills through personal assistance, classes, and special events.

Who can use the lab?

The computer workstations, scanners, and color printers are open to all users ages 14 and up. Children under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.

Recording studios are open to SJCPL cardholders in good standing (ages 14 and up; or under 14 with adult supervision).

Cardholders who are at least 18 years old, with a library card in good standing, may borrow equipment. A credit/debit card which will be stored on file and valid photo ID with current address are required at the time of checkout. A $50.00 deposit is required on any equipment with the replacement value of $100 or more.

How to reserve a station

Reservations must be made directly with the digital lab staff by phone or e-mail. Patrons may use rooms and equipment that have not been reserved on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Book recording rooms in 2-hour blocks

How much does it cost?

The equipment and software in Studio 304 is free to use!

Printing costs:

  • Inkjet Printing: $1.00 per page, $0.50 per page if using your own paper
  • Lamination (8.5 x 11 in.): $0.50 per page
  • Large format print (24 in. wide): $5.00 per linear foot, rounded up to nearest three inches
  • 3D print: $0.10 per gram of finished item, including any support material needed. We can give you an estimate of the weight before you print it.

Blank CDs and DVDs are available for purchase in Studio 304 for $2.00 each, however you are welcome to bring your own. Jump drives with 2 GB of memory are available for purchase at the Circulation Service Desk for $5.00 each.

How do I get started?

Knowledgeable staff are available at all times to help you get started. We have quick-start guides for digital conversion, and we will help you find books or online tutorials for whatever you are interested in learning.

Access to online courses is available to Library cardholders. LinkedIn Learning is an online learning company that helps anyone learn business, software, technology and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals. Log in with your library card number and PIN to get started.

3D Printing
