How to get a Library card

If you live in one of the following townships in St. Joseph County, you can apply for a free library card by visiting any of our locations. If you don’t live in our service area, you can still get a library card for a small fee.


How to see checked out items / Renew materials / Place a hold

You may access your library card account online by logging in to My Account and entering your barcode number and PIN. Once logged in, you can see your checked out items, place holds, or renew items.


Set up or reset a PIN

To reset your pin, visit the library or call 574.282.4646. Please have your library card barcode number ready when calling!


How long can items be checked out?

Books, magazines, CDs, audiobooks and toys may be checked out for 21 days. These items may be renewed for two additional 21 day loan periods. DVDs, video games, and CD-ROMs may be checked out for 7 days.


Are there late fees for overdue materials?

St. Joe County Public Library is fine-free, so there are no late fees for overdue items!


Where to return materials

Books, CDs, DVDs, video games, CD-ROMS, magazines and audiobooks may be returned to any library location. Studio 304 equipment must be returned in-person to the Studio 304 at Main Library.


Request a book from another library system

Books from other library systems may be checked out through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. To request ILL materials, call 574.282.4646 or email library@sjcpl.org.


Borrowing history

Borrowing history must be enabled by the user; due to privacy concerns, the library does not keep a record of items checked out. Learn how to enable your borrowing history.


Account notifications

Learn how to sign up for text notifications here. To change your notification preferences to phone or email, please visit a library location or call 574.282.4646.


Download digital materials

To check out digital materials such as audiobooks, music, movies, etc., download OverDrive, Hoopla, and Flipster.
