Notre Dame/St. Mary’s (ND/SMC) Tax Assistance Program
Online registration for the ND/SMC Tax Assistance Program at Main Library opens two weeks prior to each date. Registration for the first date opens January 21, 2023.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a US citizen or resident
- Combined household income must be less than $60,000 or less than $35,000 for an individual.
- We will prepare federal and Indiana tax returns
- Both taxpayers must be present if filing a joint tax return
- We cannot prepare tax returns if: (a) income from rental property, (b) taxpayers in bankruptcy (c) taxpayers who receive cancellation of indebtedness income (Form 1099-C) (d) business owners who have a net loss or business expenses in excess of $35,000 (e) business owners who claim home office deductions (f) business owners who claim depreciation (g) business owners who have employees (h) business owners who keep inventory

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) / Goodwill Tax Assistance
Taxpayers who make $64,000 or less can make an appointment on VITA’s online booking site or by calling 574-800-1361 beginning January 4, 2023. Masks are required.

What to Bring
- For married filing joint, both spouses must be present
- Photo identification for you and your spouse (if filing joint return)
- Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification
- Number documents for you, your spouse, and dependents
- Birth dates for you, spouse, and dependents
- A copy of last year’s tax return
- All Forms W-2, 1098, and 1099
- Form 1095-A (Marketplace Health Insurance)
- Information for other income
- Information for all deductions/credits
- Total paid to day care provider and their tax ID number
- For direct deposit of refund, proof of account
- For prior year returns, copies of income transcripts from IRS if Form W-2 not available
- Landlord’s name and address (if renting)
