As president of the South Bend chapter of the Indiana Black Expo, Juneteenth has always been one of my favorite events, both professionally and personally. We celebrate African American culture, showcase local, minority-owned businesses and artists, and announce scholarship recipients each year to encourage post-secondary education for minority youth. It is a great opportunity to highlight the African American community in a positive light, and I’m thankful to honor that. Below are a collection of valuable resources to learn more about Juneteenth and its history, both nationally and locally. I hope this inspires you to become more involved in the celebration in years to come.
