Western Branch Garden Playscape Campaign Launches

April 6, 2026 | By: Communications Staff

The St. Joe County Public Library Foundation is inviting the community to help complete the next chapter of the new Western Branch Library.

Construction is underway to transform the former ZB Falcons building into the new home of the Library’s Western Branch. While funding for the building itself is already secured, the Library is now focused on what comes next: the outdoor experience.

To support the project, the St. Joe County Public Library Foundation has launched a campaign to build a Garden Playscape — a free, outdoor space designed for reading, play, and gathering.

Once the campaign reaches its goal, donations will unlock a $50,000 matching grant through Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places program.

A Space Beyond the Building

The Garden Playscape will transform the existing paved area into a green, accessible environment for the community. Plans include natural play features, shade trees, native plantings, outdoor seating, and accessible pathways. The space is designed to serve multiple purposes, from everyday use by families and neighbors to small programs and community events.

In addition to providing a place to gather, the space supports early literacy through play, encourages outdoor activity, and creates opportunities for connection across all ages.
