Who Qualifies For a Resident Card?
Individuals meeting at least one of the following criteria are eligible to apply for a resident card:
- Live in an Eligible Township
- Own Property in an Eligible Township
- Teach in an Eligible Township
- Attend a school located in an Eligible Township
Eligible Townships in St. Joseph County: Centre, Clay, Greene, German, Liberty, Portage, Union, Warren.
How to Get a Library Card
- Visit any of our 10 locations
- Bring a Photo ID
- Bring Proof of Address*
*If your ID doesn’t show your current address, bring a recent bill, bank statement, or official mail to verify residency.

Our staff and volunteers deliver materials to residents who are homebound due to injury or disability.

Library Card Responsibilities
You are responsible for all materials checked out on your library card. If your card is lost or stolen, please call us immediately at 574-282-4646. You are financially responsible for material that is checked out until you report your card lost or stolen. For further details on our Circulation Policies, please view Section 3 of our Public Service Policy Manual.

A guest card is an option for individuals who do not live in the townships served by the St. Joe County Public Library to utilize library resources.

St. Joseph County has multiple public library systems. Each library system is funded by property taxes collected within its specific service area. SJCPL receives tax support from the 8 townships it serves.
If you live in a , your property taxes support a different public library system. However, you can still access SJCPL materials and select digital services by purchasing a guest card for an annual fee.
