The St. Joseph County Public Library is partnering with the City of South Bend Venues, Parks, and Arts to host a series of family friendly outdoor events at six area parks. Monday, September 14 through Saturday, September 19, the Library and VPA’s Boomer will bring fun, activities, and snacks to neighborhood parks. Explore-A-Story with Jim Gill will take place on Saturday, September 19, at Leeper Park. 

Schedule and Locations

  • Monday, 14, 3:30-5:30pm - LaSalle Park

  • Tuesday, 15, 3:30-5:30pm - Keller Park

  • Wednesday, 16, 3:30-5:30pm - Potawatomi Park

  • Thursday, 17, 3:30-5:30pm - Kennedy Park

  • Friday, 18, 3:30-5:30pm - Marshall Park

  • Saturday, 19, 11:00am-12:00pm - Leeper Park

Each day during the week will spotlight a fun activity for the whole family. 

  • Make tie dye masks on Monday and meet a mini horse from Reins of Life. 

  • Listen to the Marvelous Marcus Music Hour on Tuesday.

  • Enjoy a performance by the Music Village on Wednesday. 

  • Abracadabra Magic will take the stage for a magic show on Thursday.

  • Friday is devoted to dance with the help of Southold Dance Theater, Satriany Hutamy, Creative Dance N', and Bad Entertainment.  

The League of Women Voters will join the festivities all week to register voters. Discover Bendable and get signed up to learn something new. The Friends of the Library Book Store will have Grab & Go Book Bags filled with books.

Jim Gill will present an outdoor musical performance for families with young children to sing and dance along to on Saturday at 11am.

To  prevent the spread of COVID-19, families should bring a picnic blanket to designate space on the lawn. Library staff will assist with seating and social distancing. Attendance at Explore-A-Story will be limited to 250 people. Attendees will be seated on a first come, first served basis. Face masks for adults and children over age 2 are required for all events.

Explore-A-Story is made possible through the generous support of TCU Foundation and Masterbilt. The Library Boomer Tour involves the participation of many community groups, including Bad Entertainment, Creative Dance N’, Kroc Center, Reins of Life, Inc., Southold Dance Theater, The League of Women Voters of the South Bend Area, and The Music Village.
